Full STEM Ahead
Science, Technology, and Mathematics, or STEM, is one of the most important fields in the world today. With the advent of the internet and other emergent technologies, we have seen great innovation and progress on how we conduct ourselves and make decisions in the market. Indians, among other immigrants, particularly from Asia, have been at the forefront of this transformation. Having strong STEM backgrounds, they have found themselves to become an essential cog in some of the leading technology and innovation companies in the world. Even at the highest levels, Indians can be found as key decision-makers and visionaries that are guiding the path to a new future.
Considering how the evolution of STEM is going to influence society, IAC is driven to spread awareness of STEM and motivate aspiring individuals to pursue STEM-related careers. Today, STEM suffers from under-participation, particularly from women. There seem to be ‘barriers’ that limit the entry and growth of women in tech. IAC wants to shatter such ceilings by spreading the importance of technology, and by enabling and encouraging individuals to pursue STEM.
This vision is driven by an idea of blended educational programs that cover technical, psychosocial and experiential trainings. Such an approach liberates classrooms of traditional learning and nourishes informal learning environments that are technologically stimulating. Students are thereby exposed thrilling and lucrative futures in IT and can first-hand witness their contribution affecting change. IAC also engages the Indian diaspora, whose continued dependence and success from IT has largely shaped their standing in American society. IAC leverages this expertise and perpetuates it to mainstream America.
The IndoAmerican Center believes very strongly in the value of science and its intellectual and practical approach methods that systematically address and solve issues through observation and experiment. IAC sees STEM playing an ever-increasing role in the future as automation, artificial intelligence and machine-learning grow and improve. Its continuing role in defining and designing our futures cannot be underestimated. IAC births and spearheads programs and initiatives that meet these goals. With the support of the Indian-American community and leaders, IAC sees itself as the right vessel to carry and deliver this message. IAC is actively seeking collaboration to meet these goals through STEM-oriented training and development initiatives, and serve as a key player in STEM-related seminars and discussions, in both India and the US.
The affects of such programs will be highly impactful. An increased domestic workforce pool, which is now capable of taking on such roles, will curb outsourcing and loss of American jobs. IAC also shares its findings and resources with driven players who wish to replicate such a program and/or transpose it onto other STEM dominions.
